Beauty upgrade: The different facelift procedures

Facelifts are surgical procedures performed by cosmetic surgeons to eliminate perceived imperfections. The most common flaw that men and women often see on their faces are wrinkles. They usually arise either because of too much sun exposure or as a consequence of natural aging. Alcohol intake can also increase and accelerate the appearance of these creases in the skin. With facelifts, people can now address this kind of aesthetic dilemma. There are numerous types of facelift procedures available. The most common of which are:

1. SMAS lift

This is the most commonly done facelift procedure. This involves the removal of excess skin and the tightening of the skin that was left behind. Next is the elevation of the skin and the muscle-aponeurosis complex. The fatty tissue which is present in the neck may also be removed.

2. Subperiosteal lift

In this type of facelift, an endoscope or an incision is made horizontally across the scalp. The skin is then pulled up to tighten it. There may or may not be incisions made inside the mouth. They serve to free the fat, muscle, and skin layers from the facial bones.

3. Mid facelift

Also referred to as “cheek-lift,” this surgical procedure mainly addresses the triangular area in the middle of the face. Since this procedure does not improve the neck or lower face, it may be paired with a neck lift.
